This sweet Gramma was the mother of my artist friend, Sylvia.
We used to paint together at her home studio when the weather was cold.
Her mom would sit there and crochet while we artists chatted as we painted. Sometimes she would chime in about life in the old days. She wasn't an artist herself, but she loved that we included her.
One day, I asked Sylvia if she had done a portrait of her mother. "Nope," she said. "I do landscapes." So, I snapped a photo for reference and before I got more than halfway finished with this painting, both she and my friend Sylvia passed away, within a few months. I was so sad about that, I put it away for a long time.
After a recent move to the east coast, enough time had passed that I was able to resolve to finish it. Now, I'm so glad I did!
This painting reminds me of life when it was simpler. I have fond memories of her kindness and productivity. The Gramma could be many people, don't you think?
Who does she remind you of?
